Is the high cost of bakery cakes end you? Or the poor quality of this cake supplied that you got to the last birthday party for your child's left feel you unworthy of parent? This year, why not do something completely different for a special day of you kid? Make and decorate a cake from scratch!
If you're like me, however, you are not yet qualified for joining the cake Boss. For of my more girl last birthday, I bought a Wilton cake with the face of the Elmo. However, the cake was made from scratch and decorated with success. Better yet, it was delicious!
Supplies
Construction of a lower top cake requires that you have some essential tools. Here are the tools I used.
Deck (Yes, it will be messy)
Mixing bowls
Hand mixer
Wilton Elmo cake
Food colouring
Knife (long and serrated at the level of the cake)
Advice and Wilton pastry bags (I used whole decoration of my mother, that is since the 1970s and is no longer available). Will probably buy the base Wilton cake decorating set soon.)
Silicone spatulas
Rack cooling.
Optional: susan lazy or hub to help icing the cake
The cake of planning.
Otherwise, using the Elmo pan, plan your cake on paper, on the theme of the party and what you want the finished product to look like. This will help not only you think things through but give you something to follow that you actually create the cake.
A few tips, that I learned:
If the construction of a cake shaped like a character theme, they can be frozen (after cooled for a few hours) and then cut into various shapes with a knife before icing.Prior to cake icing, place a cake chilled in the freezer for about ten minutes. This hardens all pieces of loose cake on top - important if the creation of drawings and textures
First, take a few solid vegetable shortening and wipe it off everywhere in the Elmo cake. Grease all completely. Use a pastry brush to get within all withdrawals. Then take about 2 spoonfuls flour soup and sprinkle around inside the stove. Shake the pan to a uniform layer across in it. Turn upside down to shake off the loose flour.
Bake the cake, I used this recipe for chocolate cake. Once you have the dough, pour it in the cake. Bake in a pre-heated 350 degrees on the support of the Centre for about 40 minutes. The cake is done if paste you a knife in the Center and it comes out clean.
Remove and let cool on a grid of cooking for about 5 minutes. Before the five minutes is up and with a bread knife, carefully slice the raised Centre of the cake box until it is same. Use a bread knife to carefully pry around all edges, to ensure that nothing is not blocked. Then, with the plate will be have cake, cover, and then flip upside down. Carefully remove the NAP Elmo. You should have a beautiful face. Let cool for about an hour.
After the time (you can make your icing at the moment), place the pie in the freezer for 5 minutes. This will tighten the upper layer of to make it easier to spread the icing on the cake. I used this decorator icing recipe for cherry, adding dye food red to a part of three quarters of this.
In fact, what you get when you mix dye food red white icing? Right, hot pink! What I have learned since then have to use the paste of freezing of Red food colouring, and what you get is a dark orange. It is ok. You must leave in the refrigerator for a few days. Grow older, it will darken in color, with a beautiful red.
Decorate the cake Elmo
There are a lot of ideas to make a cake Elmo - I their combined all in my own design. This is what I used:
white icingred cherry (urr, Rose)
Two large towers of chocolate chips (about one inch in diameter, to our food in bulk local store).
Half a bag of chocolate chips
A small oatmeal cookie, about two inches in diameter
First of all, I have carefully frosted the eyes and nose with white icing, a knife and a spatula. Then, I have filled in his mouth, with a knife to gently fill the contours of her smile. The two large towers of chocolate chips that I used for his eyes and his nose became cookie. Finally, I filled in the mouth with chocolate chips, making his black mouth.
Then, using the red cherry, frosted around the sides. Now for the fun part! Using the cake decorator, I added a star-shaped tip. Then, I have carefully pipe several rows of rosettes around the face of the Elmo to simulate fur. Push firmly on the bottom, and then slightly to create a smooth, swirling tail... I mean, fur. Be everywhere, in all of the cake filling, and you are done.
Hello Elmo. You're blushing!
Written and carefully created by Chris Molnar (well, in fact, it is easy and fun!) Chris has held a party Elmo for his youngest daughter in mid-April, and the first thing she did (after/h on its candles) was to chocolate chip.
